About

I spent my early years growing up in Milton Keynes before moving to the Kent town of Herne Bay. Attributing my early travels to the dislocation that came with moving, I have since travelled comprehensively throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.

As well as leaving home at the age of 17 to hitch-hike from the UK to Turkey and then Morocco via Eastern Europe, Germany, France and Spain, I’ve travelled travelled in disguise through Taliban-controlled Afghanistan where I was held prisoner in the southern town of Ghazni before being released by the regional commander. I also became the first independent traveller to cross the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan border since the Russian revolution and spent two years as an infantry soldier in the British army, serving in Bosnia and Germany. I have also lived and worked in Greece and Thailand.

Despite a natural tendency to avoid staying in one place for too long, I’ve now settled in London where I work for a number of editorial and corporate clients including The Sydney Morning Herald, the Press Association, the European Pressphoto Agency and Agence France-Presse.

Most recently, after having a picture selected for this year’s Press Photographers Year competition I was extremely pleased to win the News Photographer of the Year award at the UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards 2011.
